I'm writing a book

At least, that's what I'm going to try to spend my 2026 doing.

Without going into too much detail, things changed for me towards the end of last year—a true case of "be careful what you wish for." I definitely wished for what happened, and then was not prepared for the reality of what would happen if it did.

Because of that, I've been looking at my life a bit differently, and now that my reality has shifted, I don't really want it to change. I got what I wanted, I just wasn't ready. So now I want to get ready (really, really wish I had prepared for this more lol).

Part of this involves writing. I'm a lover of books, have been since I was a kid (ignore that large gap in my life where technology cut it away; it returned slowly but surely). And I've always had stories in my head. It's why I love TTRPGs, and why I gravitated so much towards solo ones. Thunderfang was great, and it's definitely my pride and joy. It's part of what helped me get to this point.

I also received some kind words from a reader encouraging me to do my own thing. And...well, now's the time, I think.

Before 2025 ended, I worked on my outline for a book I had been stewing on for some time. For now, internally until I can think up a proper title, this book is referred to as Project Seagull. It takes a concept from an anime I absolutely love and uses it as a supernatural element for a mystery novel. (Sucks that I don't think I can use it as a comp title, but I'll cross that bridge once the first draft is done.) I've always loved mysteries, mostly because I love trying to solve them, and that feeling of, "DAMN! I should have seen it." is just sooooo good. And I want to see more of "me" in books. Not enough Black and gay main characters, I feel.

I started writing it in early January, and I'm currently a little over 43k words. The suspects (of book 1) have been laid out, the "detective" is figuring out clues and closing in on whodunnit. My plan is for it to be a trilogy, with a murder mentioned in Book 1 (not the main murder) being solved in Book 3, clues spread out through all three books.

Big task.

I've "won" the unspoken November writing challenges in years past multiple times, and even when I didn't win, I came pretty close in all but one. I learned a lot from those, like I can write 1k+ words a day if I really try.

I think once my first draft is done, and I polish it up a bit, I think I'd be open to sharing some of it here, get some feedback. Maybe this concept just does not work. Won't know unless I try.

Hopefully I'll have more to share with you all soon.

On a sidenote: I'm also trying to think up another actual play to write. I had originally planned on a Thunderfang sequel, but I think I want to give that a bit more time. I'm thinking of something more fantasy-based, using the Legend in the Mist system. I'll keep you all updated on that as it comes along.
